31 Day Challenge, day 6: Violet

Day 6! Which means violet nails... Like my last challenge, it's a leopard print look, but with a different take. The violet basecolor is China Glaze Gothic Lolita. I immediately knew I somehow wanted to use it for this challenge because I just love the color and I'm smitten with the subtle shimmer. After a coat of Seche Vite I could start on the leopard half of this fifty-fifty mani. To do that I covered half of each nail with tape, then I applied the blue (China Glaze First Mate) as thin as possible and stamped over it with a silver polish and Konad imageplate M57.

I've got mixed feelings about the final result, it looks almost too tacky but I somehow kind of like it too. Is that a bad thing? :-P Anyhow, I enjoyed working on it and I'll see you soon! :-)

  1. I absolutely *love* the colour combination! Not something I'd think to pick very quickly, but it looks very nice!

  4. I like the idea, but not the colours! ;P

Maybe you'd think it looked less 'tacky' if the blue was something a bit more neutral, or clashy. Then again, I don't think it looks tacky at all- it looks cool! Just not my colour combination!

    1. That's funny you mention clashy! Because first I wanted to use a clashy color - bright turquoise - instead of the navy, but I already use that so often with purple. xD Anyway, I like the idea too so I'll try it with better colors next time. Thanks for sharing your opinion!

  5. Ooooh I like this! It's not to tacky because of the half-half style.

  6. This looks fun! I like that half the nail is simple and the other one is more "complicated". But I think it would have looked even more nice if the blue was black or similar. :P

  13. Lovely blog you have. I was wondering, how do these challenges work? I'm a newbie in the nail art world and I've been reading lots of blogs having 31 days challenges, but I still don't understand who publishes 'em or how do you enter a challenge... Anyway, I love your art and the way you use colours, just AWESOME!
    Greetings!!!

    1. Hi Angelina, thanks for your comment. :-) I don't know who came up with this challenge originally, but ever since I started my blog I've seen many bloggers doing it. If you look up '31 day challenge nail art' on Google, you should be able to find a list of all the themed challenges for the period of 31 days. So during those 31 days you're supposed to do a different mani each day according to the theme that goes with each day. That's basically it. I think the point of this challenge is to be creative, because although there's a theme, you can make it as big or simple as you like. Plus it's fun for readers to see it going on on different blogs, as each challenge result turns out differently per blog. Hope you join as well!
